Training for rehabilitation doctors focused on biomechanical assesment methodologies to improve the rehabilitation process

Nowadays biomechanical measurement techniques in the medical field are commonly used. These methodologies are mainly focused on the functional and bodily harm assessment. These tools have advantages from traditional tools, mainly in terms of accuracy and reliability of the measurement. However, in general, these techniques are mainly used in clinical studies but have great potential for use in clinical practice as a: aid to diagnosis, progress monitoring of patients, guidance for further rehabilitation therapy depending on the capabilities affected, assessment of limitations, evaluation of patient cooperation, etc.The rehabilitation physician's academic background has a clear clinical focus, so they have a lack of knowledge in the area of biomechanical assessment, which could be very useful in their job performance. This situation is well known by professional associations at national and European level, as SERMEF and ESPRM, who believe in the importance of providing their associates with additional training to complement their professional skills. This knowledge in biomechanical assessment already exists and is commonly used in research centers. The Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia (IBV) and Dipartimento di Bioingegneria - Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) have been working for years in the biomechanical field and have also provided several training courses in this area to bioengineers and medical doctors in Spain and Italy.
