Training Course for Leaders of On-Arrival Orientations
Start date: Mar 1, 2011,

Every August and September, YFU organisations across Europe organise trainings for exchange participants who have just arrived in their countries for their year-long stay abroad. Immersed in new countries and cultures, the exchange participants need guidance and support for their adaptation to new multicultural environments as well as for their personal safety and wellbeing. However, there is a growing concern that current practices in YFU are not enough to a) cultivate practices that are in line with current developments in intercultural learning, b) develop the competences of young leaders as facilitators to train others in intercultural learning using sound non-formal education methods, and c) include a European dimension in on-arrival orientations. In addition, many volunteers in new and developing YFU organisations in Central and Eastern Europe lack experienced youth workers to serve as role models in their own countries to learn from. So, the Training Course for leaders of on-arrival orientations will gather together 23 youth workers from 13 countries in Chi in u, Moldova for 6 days and aim to increase the quality of on-arrival orientations organised by YFU organisations throughout Europe by incorporating more up-to-date approaches to intercultural learning, integrating a European dimension, and focusing on the development of training/facilitation skills among the leaders of those orientations. The training will use non-formal methods to exchange practices, develop participants' facilitation skills and more. In the long term, this training will aim to increase the impact of YFU's long-term youth exchanges and also its capacity to organise high quality European Voluntary Service projects
