Towards Sustainable Community: Creating Local Agenda 21 in Cross-Border Regions of Serbia and Hungary

In line with the experiences gained and lesson learnt by municipalities in the courseof developing LA21, the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM)wishes to incorporate the experiences of Hungary, as an EU member that had alreadygone through this process. Six municipalities in Vojvodina (Irig, Kovin, Kula, Novi Bečej,Odžaci and Sremski Karlovci) were chosen for this project, while the Sub-regionalHuman Servicing Institute (Kistérségi Humán Szolgáltató Intézmény), an associationof 20 self-governments in the Baja region of Hungary, were selected as a cross-borderpartner. In the transfer and exchange of experiences among these partners, the SCTMproject team will serve as a coordinator, facilitator and an expert consultant. The mainobjective of the project is to incorporate all principles of sustainability and environmentalprotection in line with the EU standards into six new strategic planning documents. Thepartners from Hungary play a very significant role in the project as they will delivertraining sessions and workshops based on their experience and expertise on strategicsustainable planning.
