Toward Active Old Age - European Network to Develop Social and Health Care Education to respond to the Varying Needs of Older People

Towards Active Old Age will develop a forum for national and European level analyses and discussions on the professional roles, values and skills necessary for the future care of older people. The number of older people is increasing in all European countries and as such the ageing population is a challenge for which Europe needs to develop social and health care services to meet the needs of this age group. Future needs will vary considerably with older people being both in a better physical condition than today and the number of 'very old people' being much higher. The partnership of four countries will undergo initial analysis across their own countries to establish existing methods of good practice and to review existing training provision in the sector. National networks will be established in each participating country and own language websites set-up to provide a common information and communication platform. On a European level a central website will be introduced to report common findings and to allow comparisons of existing training models. The common website will function both as a common discussion platform and an outlet for project information to a pan-European audience. The four national networks will feature both existing care practitioners and those currently undergoing training and will further include teachers and educators in this field.National seminars will be held in each participating country to further inform and generate discussion within the sector and a final transnational seminar 'Toward Active Old Age' will be held to present the findings and recommendations of the project.
