Tourist promotion of reclamation and rural building itineraries in the cross-border area (Pro.tur.rurale)
Start date: Dec 31, 2005, End date: Mar 30, 2008 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project includes initiatives aimed at the tourist enhancement of reclaimed territories in Eastern Veneto and in the Slovenian area of Ajdovščina, with the aim of increasing tourist flows also in the low tourist season. The project intends to foster a thematic tourism linked to the history of reclamation in its different historical, architectural and environmental aspects, in an environment-friendly perspective. It is the response to the need to promote and enhance the valuable construction work that was done to reclaim the rural area in parts of the Venetian and Slovenian territories, bearing witness to the evolution of this area, thus encouraging thematic tourism and cycling itineraries and river activities. Research and cataloguing activities will be followed by the organization of workshops on land reclamation; an Atlas of the reclaimed area in the cross-border territory will be drawn up with the identification of a common thematic itinerary, which includes a guided tour in the reclamation district of the Consortium. The development of tourist attractions leads to an enhancement of the reclamation construction works and of the rural landscape, as well as of the cycling routes developed along the river of which the Consortium is in charge. The project aims at diversifying and increasing, also in the low tourist season, the tourism offer of the Venetian hinterland, located between the Livenza and the Tagliamento rivers, as well as of the Slovenian area of Ajdovščina, whose significance, while potentially very high, remains today at the margins of the important tourist flows that characterize instead the coast of the province of Venice.
