TOUCH: on the road with Erasmus+ circus tour
Start date: May 10, 2016, End date: Nov 9, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Youth Exchange “TOUCH: on the road with Erasmus+ circus tour” will promote creativity and culture, inclusion of youngsters with fewer opportunities, volunteering and youth participation. Mainly through outdoor events and performances (circus), the participants will be involved in an interactive tour around the North of Portugal’s countryside, raising awareness about EU values and opportunities. This project will be developed by 5 countries (3 program countries - Portugal, Slovenia and Macedonia and 2 partner countries – Armenia and Georgia) and will take place in Amarante (Portugal) during 10 days, from 22/07/2016 till 31/07/2016. It will gather in a balanced way (gender and countries) 20 participants (4 per country), aged between 15-20, and 5 youth leaders. It will also have an Advanced Planning Visit with all youth leaders from 10th till 13th June 2016 (travel days included) in Amarante. The main objectives are: promote creativity and alternative ways to design and develop cultural events and activities among youngsters (at HÁ FEST - local youth week); spread the concept “back to the basic” by stimulating young people to produce and communicate (ICT) their own cultural needs (learning by doing); learn and raise awareness about EU values and opportunities, especially for those youngsters with fewer opportunities living in the countryside; raise the spirit of cooperation among youngsters and between them and the community, fostering the values of solidarity and mutual understanding between people from different cultures, especially when working with partner countries; raise awareness for alternative approaches such as Fair Trade movement. Main activities and methods: during this Youth Exchange the participants will develop several activities using Non Formal Education (NFE) methodologies. The main activities will be centered on (1), share and learn (peer education) different circus arts (2) design a circus tour around the North of Portugal’s countryside and (3) share the cultural diversity by organizing events such as intercultural nights. We will use different methods (outdoor activities, circus arts, dances, music, simulations, parade and campaigning, intercultural nights, show cooking, video and exhibitions, etc.) in order to assure that all participants can be involved and have an active role. We will assure a safe atmosphere of intercultural learning where participants can interact and cooperate with the common goal of participation and sharing their cultures and experiences. Results and impact: we expect this Activity to create a new attitude and artistic skills to young people becoming active members of their societies promoting cultural events. In this way young people can reflect and understand their role in society and use different NFE methodologies to drive their own ideas, cultural and social needs among community. The impact that this project seeks to create both in the participants and in the local community can be really significant because now more than ever we need to go back to the basic and answer to our own cultural and social needs by producing activities, knowing witch opportunities are offered at EU level and applying alternative methods (NFE activities, circus arts, dances, music, visits, simulations, exhibitions, campaigning and outdoor activities) that allow a greater interaction within the group of participants and the community – sense of belonging. This approach is inclusive as it encourages other youngsters to be more participative and aware, thus transforming their way of thinking and perceiving reality, passing it to the community.
