Tools for life
Start date: Jan 1, 2015,
End date: May 1, 2016
The project "The Tools for Life" has existed for over 10 years. Returning with an EVS Tools for Solidarity Ireland, Anthony Crochu, former president of Concordia, decided to create an association in France with the same activity: the restoration of tools that are sent in Southern countries. A social dimension is added by Concordia: young people from socio-educational structures are regularly present on the activity to develop manual skills they acquire during the sessions.
Since 2013, the project has developped thanks to the involvement of volunteers who wanted to develop a number of activities related to sustainable development (shared garden, shop fair trade, construction of dry toilets, furniture recovery equipment ...)
The primary objectives of this project are:
- Create social ties and exchanges around an open space for all;
- Accompany the fun and participatory discovery of gestures and sustainable and eco-friendly practices;
- Fostering openness to others by bringing together people from different backgrounds.
The main activities are:
-Collection, Catering and sending tools in the South.
- Development and maintenance of the shared garden.
- Entertainment activities with children around sustainable development.
-Animations with social and educational structures.
-Enhancement of the volunteer house.
-Animation International volunteer projects
A JAMO volunteer will be sent by Agora Cultural, Spanish association. Regular monitoring (twice a week) will be held with the mentor.
Impacts and results will be many on the voluntary in terms of skills acquisition (manual, communication, leadership, decision-confidence) which facilitates entry into the labor market. Local people, children, youth, active volunteers and all the people met by the volunteer will learn about the European projects and to explore what the European culture is a well as learn about sustainable consumption with the activities.
