Tools for integrated training of language and ECVET defined vocational skills in mechanised forestry

Tools for skills wass a project financed by the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme, subprogramme Leonardo da Vinci. The project aimed to increase the level of professional skills and language skills among the European Forest Machine Operator. It was built on the work of two previous Leonardo projects. The main outcomes of the project are 1. A Multilingual glossary on technical forestry terms to assist Forest Harvesting operators in foreign countries to communicate. The glossary also helps Non-native English speakers to understand English Forest Machine Manuals and Parts catalogues The glossary is now (december 2014) available at www.fmog.dictyon.net and as a downloadable app for Iphone and Android. The glossary contains over 3000 terms in 16 languages2. An integrated learning material for training a) professional skills with comprehensive test-yourself questions and case-studiesb) and language skills for Non-native English speakers to be better prepared to communicate in a work situation This material was built on the published books on ‘Working in Harvesting Teams’ (in English) part 1 and part 23. Agreed learning outcomes for the training of forest machine operators in UK, Germany and SwedenThe duration of the project was 24 months: from October 1, 2012 until September 30, 2014.
