Together 4 Change, 2.0
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Apr 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

South Baltic Four Corners is an international cooperation including Southeast Skåne in Sweden, the Polish town Swinoujscie, the Danish island Bornholm and the German island Rügen. Since 1995 Four Corners works with the aim to improve the life quality of the people in each of the Four Corners. Since the Four Corners face the same challenges, we have during a long period used each other’s experiences to solve problems together and to see different strategies of problem-solving in the sense of the European Union. The basis of the cooperation is the common natural, cultural and historical heritage of the regions. The overall objectives of the project are to 1) develop an understanding among the project partners of the underlying forces between intolerance in our globalised society, 2) increase awareness of political movements happening across the EU, how it influences elections and voter participation, 3) investigate how more young unemployed can develop their skills and entrepreneurs, 4) develop solutions to prevent unemployed youth to fall into poverty and social exclusion, 4) increase participation of young adults in democratic bodies. In addition, the project focuses on the following sub-objective: develop a strategic outcome of project results and long-lasting relationship between young adults in the participating schools and politicians in the participating regions. Each region has one coordinator and collaborates with secondary/high schools within the regions. The coordinators and teachers from all four regions guide, lead, as well as prepare the young adults and the politicians for the issues and activities they decide to focus on. The project partners have all been involved with Four Corners for many years or have worked with similar youth cooperations and EU funding and therefore have many years experience working with youth related activities and other international activities. Furthermore, political decision makers from all four regions cooperate within the project activities. The politicians are members of the local city councils or parliaments, as well as members of the political bodies of the existing international cooperation of the Four Corners. During this second part of the project, we plan to organise 3 workshops/meetings, all with a particular theme and focus on a dilemma that young adults and politicians alike face in the current debate. External experts will be invited to join and provide facts and external insight on the dilemma. Ahead of the meetings we will gather views and opinions from the participating schools, as well as from politicians, related to the dilemma that will be the theme of the meeting. We will gather the views through an on-line opinion poll with students and politicians (two target groups), and the results of the polls will be displayed and discussed. The following themes and dilemmas will be discusse during the project: 1) Young adults and the job market - Youth unemployment and entrepreneurship This meeting will focus on the dilemma of how is the next generation of European entrepreneurs developed when the concept of starting your own business is not recognised as an opportunity among young adults. 2) Young adults and inclusion - Social inclusion and poverty This meeting will focus on the dilemma of young adults being the future of the EU, while many, because of unemployment, end in poverty-like circumstances and fall outside society. 3) Young adults and politics - Participation and democracy This meeting will focus on the dilemma of attracting young adults into politics and increase the participation in democratic process, while statistics show a loss of confidence in society and increased separation from the political debate among young adults.
