Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jul 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Astangu Vocational Rehabilitation Centre is an organization providing educational and rehabilitation courses to people with disabilities. To be able to offer flexible and needs based educational options to our trainees and to support them on the way to labour market, we need to continuously improve the competences of staff and our way of working. Our trainees are people with disabilities who are often marginalized due to their disability, and/or economical, social or health problems and are often neglected from the society. Feedback from companies where our trainees pass their internship confirms that the level of professional competences of our trainees are satisfactory but they lack of social skills. By analysing the content of vocational training curricula and supportive services we have decided to put more attention to supporting trainees’ self-awareness, motivation, communication skills and personal goals. At the same time we need to continue with high level professional education where diverse practice in companies plays an important role. The project „Employment and Empowerment“ for mobility of trainees and staff members has to main aims: First aim is to offer a professional European mobility for Software and Database Management trainees to support their competitiveness through growth of their professional and social skills. The aim is fulfilled by working and living in foreign environment. Second aim is to develop competences of staff through exploring new methods and approaches in supporting trainees’ self-awareness, motivation, communication skills and setting personal goals. These skills are important for trainees to be able to conciously participate in a learning process and in moving towerd labour market. 8 trainees from Software and database management course will get an opportunity to participate in a 2-weeks internship in German vocational education centre for people with disabilities, 4 trainees from the same speciality will spend 2 weeks in workpractice in a company in Finland. 4 saff members will get to know the learning and employment support methods in England during 1 week’s mobility. Project manager will be contracted to be responsible for implementing the project according to the project contract and timetable. Implementing this mobility project is part of Astangu’s work plan and monitoring will be organised within a regular work process in weekly management information meetings and review of the work plan. New professional skills, knowledge, improved social and everyday coping skills, raised self-awareness, self-esteem and motivation, progressed foreign language skills and cultural consciousness will be the results of trainees participating in European mobility project. Staff members are expected to gain new professional skills to support our trainees in self-awareness, in raising their motivation, communication skills and abilities to set their personal goals. Work motivation and willingness to improve the work processes in Astangu, cultural horizon and foreign language skills will be improved during the visit to English organisation that supports disadvantaged people in moving towards labour market. Cooperation between ptoject partners will strenghten on organisational as well as personal level. Long term impact of the project will be seen in further development of our courses and services (including starting to use new approaches, methods in work) and in employment placements due to the good experiences from the mobilities. By fulfilling the aims of the project we also support the impelemntation of Astangu’s, Estonia’s and Europe’s important long term strategies, including increasing employemnt options, social inclusion and innovation.
