Through the eyes of others
Start date: Jan 1, 2016,
End date: Dec 31, 2016
Throught the eyes of others is a project organized by Keuropa ry from Finland and Commune di Tortona´s youth department from Italy. Two groups of young people participating in this project are 14-19 years old. These groups put their thoughts together and wanted to learn about the immigration and refugee situation in Europe more and get some tools to act against racism. The project is happening in two parts. 53 young people will gather first to Finland in february 2016 to learn about the theme. We will visit the local refugee center and organize activities for them as well as collect old clothes and other equipment for the center. We will also play a role-game about refugees journey from the conflict area in order to understand more about their situation and where they are coming from. We will take the theme of racism to talk about and understand what racism actually is and use for example art to realize where does racism come from and why is there racism in our societies. The other part of the project is happening in Italy in June 2016. We will meet again with the same 35 young people to get even more deeper understanding of the theme racism and refugees. We will make a visit to an italese refugee center also doing activities for them and giving them collected old clothes that we have organized for them. How is the situation with refugees different in Italy compared to Finland? What could these countries learn from each other in the refugee situation? On the other meeting exchange we have build already trust in the group and know each other a bit more. We will look if we can together learn more about how to put stop into racism and be the change makers of our own societies to feel people from different cultural backgrounds welcomed to the society.
