Thomastown Community Kindergarten
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project is based at a Steiner Waldorf Kindergarten for children aged between 2.5 and 6 yearsThe impact this project will have on the volunteer will include:• Cultural diversity• Language Learning• Community Involvement• Independent Living• Work ExperienceIn addition to the above, while the volunteer is at the Kindergarten, it is anticipated that she/he will learn many life long skills. It is also hoped that volunteering will be an important step in the development of active citizens. While the obvious impact on the project and the kindergarten community (children, their families and staff) will be having an extra set of hands which will enable the Kindergarten to undertake more activities with the children, the impact is greater than that. The recognition of the cultural variety and cultural differences that exist in Europe is one positive impact of having volunteers in the Kindergarten. The Volunteer will be encouraged to relay and recount traditions from her own country in order to teach the children of the Kindergarten the differences in Europe. This aspect of cultural diversity is already in place in the Kindergarten as many parents, including the Teacher, are non-Irish. Cultural diversity is embraced in Thomastown and has proved to be a positive aspect in education in the Kindergarten. There is also a sense of wellbeing created by being able to accommodate volunteers in the project. It is wonderful for the staff, management committee and parents to watch the volunteers learn and grow during their time at the Kindergarten. The impact on the Sending Organisations is that the will be able to achieve their objectives of working with young people in their country and aiding their self development and learning through EVS programmes.
