The French philosopher Tsvetan Todorov said at the event we organized in Paris: “When cultures meet, they make love not war and the children who are born out of this love - they glow. If European culture exists, it is the culture of tolerance, of acceptance and plurality.” The current project Paradox PG is submitting is in line with the general editorial policy to present distinguished European writers. All the authors included in the project had a significant impact not only in their countries but on the cultural climate in Europe and some are laureates of prestigious awards. We were also looking into encouraging inter-cultural dialogue and circulation of works, knowledge and ideas. The first book we selected is the German sensation of 2013 - Terézia Mora’s The Monster. Yann Moix’s colossal novel is on childhood, madness, mysticism, religion. Kateřina Tučková’s book is a fascinating tale of the female soul, magic and unveils some part of our common East-European history. Having published Weyergans before, we selected his first novel - a captivating self-portrait, the key to all his later works. Octavian Soviany’s book is written in the tradition of 19 century decadents. Student unrest, migration problems, economic crisis sound familiar to us in Ralph Dorman’s Kronhard. Miro Gavran’s short novel, carefully designed for a modern reader will be appreciated by our public. Cédric Villani - original and promising author and scientist is one of the new and most promising titles on the project. Swiss literature is represented by one of its most noteworthy names Urs Widmer. However different, these are works of high literary value, they lay the foundations of European civilization and culture. For all these works’ circulation and dissemination we will use not only digital technologies but also all possible channels of communication and promotion.
