The Sustainable Action
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Accumulated environmental and economic problems in Ukraine connected with unreasonable wastes management, lack of environmental education and depletion of population in villages due to low employment prospective dictate the sustainable development approach to come into policies on different levels. With this project we want to address the issues of low environmental consciousness and capabilities of self-employment for villagers with the help of rural tourism to build a working methodology for separate village communities to reach the effects of sustainable development. For this the partners in the project organize environmental extracurricular classes for pupils of the Vinnytsia suburb school and a trash segregation campaign with funds being raised directed onto inner school development. Parallel in the “Holodnyi Yar” rural area we aim to stimulate the development of incoming rural (green) tourism through informational promotion of the natural and historical heritage of its community, activation of local citizens and creation of a touristic route in the village. An EVS volunteer from Poland is invited to join and manage the activities within these initiatives, as well as the linguistic non-formal educational classes for the citizens of Vinnytsia conducted in the public library. These classes comprise Polish language and culture clubs as Vinnytsia has a huge minority of people with Polish roots being historically connected to Poland. These events hold popularity which was proved by the involvement o the previous Polsih volunteers. Generally the project will improve the wastes situation in Stryzhavka (the Vinnytsia suburb), develop the environmentally-friendly attitudes and entrepreneurship feelings among people who are gathered around the trash segregation campaign. The project will promote the “Holdnyi Yar’s” incoming tourism attractiveness, rally the separate local community representatives around the idea of rural tourism and breed active citizenship among them. As well the project will develop the intercultural awareness of the people involved as build on the thorough cultural exposure: work on grassroots levels, ethnic research of the “Holdnyi Yar” and etc. In the longer-term prospective with these methodological models, we believe, it is possible to achieve the sustainable development after replication on larger scopes: the issue of wastes on the contrary is capable of bringing resources into communities, the rural tourism can stimulate employment in villages, and the Polish clubs contribute to further build-up of friendly ties and understanding between the two countries – Ukraine and Poland.
