Todays cultural ties between Latvia and Lithuania are not sufficient. Cooperation networks are fragmented. Even though Latvia and Lithuania have common beginnings of professional music that evolved in the 19th and 20th century when choir music, other classical music works were created, chamber music (composed by Latvian and Lithuanian composers) is performed rarely. This is the reason why dissemination of chamber music could be extended across the border in a new, attractive way by involving not only students, pupils, teachers, but the society as a whole. The overall objective of the project is to develop cross-border cooperation of the academic youth communities of Mazeikiai music school, Siauliai and Daugavpils universities, promoting the chamber music of Latvia and Lithuania and mutual cultural, academic and social exchanges.Project includes two cross-border student camps that provide knowledge and experience in analyzing and playing Lithuanian and Latvian chamber music. Students will also learn there how to combine chamber music with other types of artistic outbursts. Some musical equipment will be purchased. Two cross-border festivals will be organised based on the preparation done during summer camps. Chamber music CD will be recorded and published along with scientific conference at the end of the project. A cross-cultural cross-border chamber music event in Lithuania and Latvia is a new approach. It is best to learn similarities and interaction between both chamber music styles not from lecturers but from live performances and unique experiences. That way you soak up new things quicker and learn other cultures easier. The idea of cross-cultural cooperation and common festivals and events can duplicated and applied to other specific cultural or social ties that may benefit from cross-border support.
