The core idea of the 7-months EVS-project in Haus am Maiberg, center for civic education in Heppenheim Germany, is the active participation of the volonteer in our non-formal education and international youth work. In this case it was the initiative of the future volunteer who proposed the idea of a evs-project after having been participant in two of our international youth projects in the last years. Both partner organsiations would appreciate if the person would do the next step becoming a facilitator of non-formal youth projects and being a member of the educational staff of the center. The future volunteer has a roma-identity and is motivated to work on the deconstruction of prejudices and for social justice for young roma. The volunteer will be encouraged to raise awareness for the roma-issue in Europe also in the frames of our education work. He will take part in planning the contents and organizational frames of projects of civic youth education and international youth encounters with the venue in Heppenheim or in a foreign country. Haus am Maiberg is cooperating in this evs-project with the Romanian Association Plural. The voluntary service should offer space to discover the own european identity and to meet people from a diversity of different backgrounds. The volunteer will be involved in all approx. 8 international exchange programmes with young people and experts in youth work. He will be encouraged to contribute his social, creative and management skills. In the same time the participation in different teams of facilitators will give the volunteer the opportunity to strengthen all these skills and to develop the personality. The volunteer will work more and more independently and will take more and more responsibility for tasks like moderation. The volunteer is offered the possibility to work also in other fields of Haus am Maiberg educational work. The volunteer will be offered the possibility to develop an own project together with the other European and national volunteer. He is involved in the social networking of the center. The volunteer will live inside Haus am Maiberg sharing the kitchen and bathroom with another volunteer. He will have the opportunity to attend language classes. The volunteer is supported by a mentor concerning work and a tutor concerning personal affairs. The volunteer will do the next step to widen his political and social awareness by meeting and working with young people discussing and reflecting unsolved social problems like racism, discrimination, identiy-making and European integration.
