The International dimension in education

"The Global world" is already here. It is not something that we can leave for later on. Our young people are becoming global citizens, and the ability to cope in a multicultural world is increasingly important. Migration fluxes reach everywhere and immigrants are already present in our schools or not far away. We need to prepare our children to this situation. Education must adapt. Social skills are increasingly important. Learning to speak foreign languages, to understand and appreciate other cultures, to work towards shared goals with counterparts from very different backgrounds, examine their own values and attitudes, appreciate the similarities and differences between people everywhere, and to learn to value diversity. These should be key components of an education, that plays a vital role in helping children and young people recognise their responsibilities as citizens of the global community.
