The improvement of Vocational and Language Skills of the Tourism Guidance Students’ Through the European Union Framework

Tremendous changes are taking place in advanced industrial societies, caused by intended and unintended consequences of economic and technological development. The education sector is not an exception from such changes, since relevant developments pose several challenges for the transformation of the whole educational process, including educational curricula, learning materials, instructional practices and education stakeholders. Tourism, as a sector within the global economy, has operating and human resource characteristics that differentiate it from other industrial sectors and these have direct consequences for the delivery of education and training. The attainment of such information literacy and knowledge management skills means that students are able to: recognise a need for information; identify and locate appropriate information sources; know how to gain access to the information contained in those sources; evaluate the quality of information obtained; use the information effectively; share and disseminate information sources for problem solving or knowledge-creating activities. Such individual abilities are deemed critical to educational and economic success, because information-literate tourism graduates are better students, citizens and workers. This project is based on the improvement of practical skills of tourism education in Vocational Schools and transfer of innovation of SLEST project.
