The Future of Research in/on the EU
Start date: Sep 1, 2013,

This project will equip European Studies students with the tools they need to complete their studies successfully & maximise their employability in both the academic and non-academic sectors. The project will be run in collaboration with the UACES Student Forum and will be organised by students, for students. The project comprises 2 events focused on developing different areas of students' knowledge & skills: Student Forum Seminars – The 1st day of the seminars will be focus on tackling the specific challenges which arise at varying stages of the doctoral process. The 2nd day will look at the challenges of publishing European research. The day will cover all forms of publishing including blogs, journals, open-access & monographs. A combination of lectures & workshops from industry experts, authors & journal editors will provide students with a comprehensive guide to disseminating their work. Student Forum Research Conference – This 2-day interdisciplinary conference will provide a friendly environment in which postgraduate students can gain experience of presenting research & develop contacts with other researchers in their field. The conference is aimed at research students of all levels and proposals are welcome from students working across the European Studies disciplines. Major outputs will include an online paper archive, a student resources web page, audio recordings, blog posts & newsletter articles. Participating students will be encouraged to get involved with future issues of the Journal of Contemporary European Research. These events will create an embedded network of European studies students and develop the skills of the European experts of the future. The establishment of professional relationships at an early stage in the students' careers will ensure that they are working in a way which is pan-European & multi-disciplinary. The project will enable students to gain first-hand experience of publishing, either as an editor, author or reviewer.
