The future of education starts now! Mehrsprachige Klasse am BG/BRG Leibnitz
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

***The future of education starts now!- English as medium of instruction at grammar school Leibnitz, Austria*** The 1200 pupils at our school make us one of the largest grammar schools in the province of Styria, which is why diversity, current methodology and technology have always been our key issues. In order to guarantee long lasting productive and receptive language skills (as described by CEF) enabling our pupils to interact, present and cooperate in an increasingly cross-linked European business world, we aim at introducing two CLIL-classes from age 10 to age 14 onwards (about 60 participants out of about 250 new students), using English as a working language in as many content lessons as possible providing an authentic and motivating learning situation, which later French, Italian and Spanish teachers can build a multilingual focus on. Therefore, seven of our colleagues have decided to take a professional start and develop their competencies language-level wise (Europass) as well as methodology- wise. In addition to CLIL techniques, curriculum design and oral fluency, motivating techniques like drama and online-cooperation via eTwinning are their main targets. Starting off these special classes with native-speaker-support, we are planning to increase the amount of CLIL contents continuously, enhancing the programme with special project days (e.g. science days, drama workshop, online-networking-initiative) which require our students to immerse in authentic situations, present subject contents and cooperate within their class, with their teachers as well as with European partners. The programme will be monitored as part of our school's quality development initiative. This is how we plan to achieve lasting and sustainable CLIL-Classes to boost European interconnectedness and the importance of languages as media for relating subject contents as a prerequisite for European mobility in job situations.
