The beginning of the projectThe project "The first steps " came into existence on the basis of the new conception of the school development which responds to the development of the European labour market. The new conception emphasizes teaching foreign languages. One of the methods of strengthening teaching foreign languages is introducing of the CLIL method into teaching specialized and scientific (STEM) subjects. 99 per cent of graduates of grammar schools tend to continue with further studying, mainly at universities. They can use foreign language terminology while studying foreign books and literature, going to study internship and mainly at their labour mobility in future. The proficiency of specific foreign language terminology will increase their competitiveness on the European labour market and will increase their ability to work on the EU level. The first step to fulfill the conception is training of teachers so that they will be able to understand the CLIL method and also strengthening their language, methodical and didactic competency.The aim of the projectThe main aim of the project is training and education of the school teachers and their training for strengthening their language, methodical and didactic competency so that they would be able to fulfill the school conception in the area of teaching foreign languages.The participantsTwo groups of participants will be involved in the project: teachers of STEM subjects (6) and teachers of English language (2).The description of the activitiesThe key activity of the project is specific training of the participants, which is their presence at the courses. Before and after this activity there will be many partial activities: the introduction seminar, individual consultations between the teachers of STEM subjects and the teachers of English language, workshops, preparing and piloting of A cards (i.e. preparation for classes with the CLIL methods. Every teacher of a STEM subject is supposed to create 10 A cards), miniprojects of students and all school competition.The methodology of the project executionIn the scope of preparing the project, the participants and the project guarantor were chosen, the schedule of activities was created and the market research with courses in Great Britain was done. The project guarantor will monitor fulfilling the activities and the quality of the project according to the application. The project guarantor will also monitor the aims and the results of the project through monitoring tools.The expected results and effectThe expected results of the project are getting and improving knowledge and skills in the area of the CLIL methods and strengthening methodical, didactic and language competency of all the project participants. The material output of the project will be A cards which will be accessible at the web pages of eTwinning and the school. The expected effect of the project will be the ability of the participants to prepare material for classes in which the CLIL method will be part of teaching. All the teachers of the school, parents of students and the public will be informed about the results of the project through various activities.The long-term benefitExecuting the project will enable the change of present method of teaching towards more dynamic, modern and mainly up-to-date trend of teaching. Through this project, the school will have graduates with better knowledge of foreign language and graduates who will be more competitive on the European labour market. The long-term benefit of the project will be better cooperation of the teachers of STEM subjects with the teachers of English language which will ensure the sustainability of the project.
