THE EUROPEAN LITERARY HERITAGE MEETS THE DRAGON IN THE STREET
Start date: Oct 1, 2012,

The project has a threefold aim:Firstly, to add value and expand the benefits of the triennial multi-national festival of printmaking "printfest", held in Athens with contributions from many European countries, starting at the same time an international debate on the prospects of the art of printmaking, focusing on innovation and the emerging new aesthetics.Secondly, to provide a model of how to transform a static festival to a living campaign, through the creation and dissemination of rich and varied education material, utilising the exhibited works, the presence of artists in the exhibitions and a number of seminars for artists and open space workshops for the wider public.Thirdly, to familiarise the general public, starting from teenagers, with the art of printmaking, demonstrating that it is a friendly and accessible form of art to exercise one’s creativity, explore talent, and offer an emotional outlet and a personal expression channel; demonstrating both the inspirational and technical aspects that characterise the products of printmaking. The project will organise complementary activities during the festival-which is funded independently- consisting of events of awareness raising and learning value; will allow a larger number of artists to attend and take part in the events; and will create video and audio material that will be later edited to illustrate the educational material that will be presented as a “printmaking familiarization kit”. Moreover, three international workshops and an international conference will be organised in other European countries, to promote the debate on the future of printmaking; and an international competition for young printmakers will complement these events.Partners from Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Norway and Cyprus join forces to carry out the project activities and disseminate its results widely, through a dedicated website, publications, exhibitions and educational materials.
