The EU and international family and succession law
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The EU has adopted in a short period of time several Regulations affecting international family and succession law and has ratified some Conventions adopted in the Hague Conference of Private International Law in the area of family law. We also have to consider that the free movement of persons affect some areas of family law not regulated by the EU (the recognition of marriages celebrated in Member States, particularly, same sex marriages), and that immigration law is also relevant in this area (family reunification, which is related to marriages of convenience). All these Regulations and related aspects are quite unknown to many people: not just students and legal practitoners (lawyers, judges, notarys…) but also other professionals (psychologists, mediators, people working with immigrants…) and society in general (people who could be interested in making use of the free movements of persons and need to be aware of the consequences of these rules on their family relationships). We have to highlight the fact that Andalucia is one of the regions with the highest percentage of immigrant population in Spain, with many residents from EU countries and third States, and that these rules on family and succession law apply regardless of the nationality. In this context, we want to organize a specific course on “The EU and international family and succession law”, that does not exist so far in the academic offer of the University of Seville or any of the surrounding Universities. The course will be offered in the Permanent Training Centre of the University of Seville (http://www.cfp.us.es), which is an institution created to meet the needs of the socio-economic environment through the transfer of knowledge, lifelong learning and innovation. The Permanent Training Centre allows us to give the course an open character, as its academic offer is not restricted to the students of the University of Seville.
