The development of the Vartius border crossing point and its surrounding area / Water treatment facility
Start date: Dec 31, 2003, End date: Sep 29, 2005 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project was closely related to the Vartius water management project where water supply and sewage investments were completed. A new development plan was created for Vartius, where arranging appropriate water management was included as one of the procedures. Th e goal of this project was to ensure the suffi cient handling of waste water from Vartius by constructing a new water treatment facility that uses the bio rotor principle in order to prevent the contamination of the waterways and environment as the usage of Vartius increases. Th e development plan goals and growth scenarios were included in the water management facility planning and design. Th e treatment facility was planned to be placed in the location assigned for it in the local land-use plan. Achievements: The project was implemented using turnkey contracting (a construction implementation method that includes design) and the contractor was selected through competitive bidding. In accordance with the plan, a new wastewater treatment facility that utilises bio motor principles was constructed, which fulfilled the environmental requirements. The water treatment facility was taken into use during the summer of 2005 and the contracts finishing work was completed and the old treatment facility demolished during August. The Vartius regions water management development operations were completed and the area now has a fully functional water supply. Through these actions, prerequisites have been created for the operational development of the region (for example, the border crossing station and permanent residences). The projects implementation went well.
