The Development and Promotion of Youth Enterprise Services in Central Europe

The current project is the third in a series knows as the Youngbusiness.net (YBN) projects that started in 1999. Through working with a variety of Partners in Central Europe, the projects have led to the creation of Youth Enterprise Centres in Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland and Romania. The present project - YBN.3 - aims to spread the method of youth enterprise learning and counselling developed at Wandsworth Youth Enterprise in South London to new agencies in Eastern Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. Former Partners are also taking part, helping to cascade the training and counselling methods to the new areas. In adition, the project aims to raise the profile of youth enterprise in the region through a series of promotional events, and also to set up a Society to carry on with the work once current project funding ends. The project has now ended, with important achievements to its credit. Numerically the targets of young people helped, young people trained or counselled and youth business start-ups have all been exceeded. The number of ethnic minority young people helped was almost at its target, and may actually be over it if allowance is made for under-reporting.In addition, 3 regional events in Slovakia, Hungary and Romania were successfully held with audiences of local business-people, educationalists, government officials and practitioners attending (although the numbers were not quite what had been expected, largely due to the poor financial situation. The Final Event was held on 15 October at the British Embassy in Budapest with the Ambassador attending tgether with an informed audience of about 70 people. The Society for the Promotion of Youth Enterprise in Central Europe was set up in February 2009 with premises in BYEC's offices in Budapest.
