The Development and Improvement of Healthcare Services for People with Mental Disorders in Cross-border Regions (R-D-S Health)

PROBLEM: On the cross border of Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus there are one of the biggest and the oldest hospitals for patients with mental illnesses, where forensic patients with mental diseases are also treated. Three similar institutions from Lithuania, Latvia and Belarushave joined their forces in order to make treatment of their patients more efficient.OBJECTIVE: to contribute to reducing the number of mental disorders, ensuring successful rehabilitation of patients and their return to the society, thus contributing to public safety. Achievements: The specialised hospitals of Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus improved the conditions of their patients by creating healthy lifestyle opportunities and improving the healthcare services for people with mental disorders.The premises of the hospitals were renovated and the Health Promotion Centres were established.Joint experience exchange and training events were organised, during which the Health Promotion Strategy for patients with mental disorders was elaborated.
