THE CONVERSIONS PROJECT – CONVERSION : A Pilot project to Develop and Test a Comprehensive Programme on Conversion from Segregated Settings to Inclusive Employment Services

The specific aim of the project is to pilot a comprehensive training programme targeted at managers and frontline staff in agencies wishing to convert from segregated employment to inclusive employment, and from service centred to client centred delivery. This project builds on the recently completed LABOr project, which was a reference material measure to identify best practice in training and employment for people with intellectual disabilities. The main target group are agencies throughout the EU that provide employment services to people with disabilities and that wish to move from sheltered work provision to supported employment. The direct beneficiaries are senior managers, middle managers and front-line staff within these agencies. The materials produces will also be relevant to social worker graduates looking at specialising in employment services, policy makers and disability activists at national, regional and local level. The ultimate beneficiaries will be disabled people throughout Europe. The project work is based on literature search, collection and definition of existing materials, course descriptions, methodological and content analysis, etc. The main project outputs will be: (1) a tried and tested accredited comprehensive programme for conversion into inclusive employment. The materials will be available in EN, FR and PL on website and CDRom. (2) A briefing will inform agencies on the key steps and processes , (3) a web-based knowledge center will offer distant-learning package, and (4) seminars. Valorisation will be realised by a multi-stakeholder conference at the end of the project, by the web-based knowledge center, reference groups, mainstream lobbying and long-term availability especially by EASPD and the networks of the other partners. The main impact of the project will be that agencies throughout the European Union will have access to the materials, to re-skill staff and management. The results will also be a medium to long-term impact on employment experience with more disabled people being supported to move to jobs with better conditions.
