Testing and Assessment in English Language Teaching - Lehrerfortbildung
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Nowadays testing and assessing has gained great importance in teaching. There are many different approaches on how it can be accomplished. Due to changes in Austria's educational system, such as the implementation of the„Neue Mittelschulen“, teachers have to face new ways of testing and assessing their students’ progress. There are various theories and approaches that teachers are exposed to. In order to create a better understanding of methodology underpinning testing and assessment the ELT team of „NMS Zistersdorf“ ought to be supported. One teacher is going to attend a course focusing on „Testing and Assessing in English Language Teaching“ at Cambridge’s Bell School, so as to pass on her gained knowledge to her colleagues. The participant will acquire a greater ability to create tests that accurately assess language and skills. Furthermore the ability to prepare students for tests and assessments will increase. An additional focus will be on using information gained from testing and assessment to provide useful feedback to students and to plan further teaching and learning. All of these skills are paramount for teachers working towards the aim of succeeding in Austria’s recently introduced standardised testing and school leaving examination, the so called „Matura“. They ought to support them in their daily teaching, as well as in representing them to parents and students, as it is from great importance that they also get an insight into the new ways of testing and assessment. Additionally, students should improve and benefit from the adaption of assessment and testing, while the school’s high level of performance ought to be maintained.
