Tehnologia in sprijinul invatarii
Start date: Nov 2, 2015, End date: Nov 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The institutions which will be involved in this project are: the beneficiary – “Virgil Madgearu” Technological Economic Highschool, Romania and the course provider - Executive Training Institute, Malta. Although LTEVM is a technological highschool, it has grades from I to XII and it also has the program Second Chance for adults (program dedicated to those who did not complete their compulsory education). Our highschool is the only highschool in the county which has secondary school (it enables graduating classes V-X). The adult school population is numerous, belonging to different vulnerable groups: Gypsy, disorganized families or with serious financial problems, single mothers, imprisoned people, etc. Implementing the Second Chance program meant an effort for teachers, who had to improve certain skills and competences in order to work with adult students. Although LTEVM trainers are qualified, the differences concerning contents, methods, teaching and pedagogical discourse revealed in the Second Chance activity, require the institution’s support in order to get good results and to reduce dropout among adult learners. As the number of registration applications for the Second Chance program increases every year and it is bigger than the number of available places, the number of groups in the program increase next year (we anticipate that this upward trend will conitue). The project’s objectives, drawn from the institution’s needs and according to the targets formulated in PAS at the level of LTEVM, are: • On short and medium term: acquiring and using skills and competences of integration in teaching; using teaching methods adapted to the education of adults in teaching in the Second Chance; openness towards interculturality and tolerance. • On medium and long term: the accessibility of teaching within the Second Chance program through modern means and methods; reducing school dropout among adult learners; attracting adults who abandoned or did not attend school at all in order to complete the 10 grades of the compulsory education; initiating a database of teaching materials, especially for the Second Chance program. From LTEVM 10 trainers will participate in the mobility. These teachers invoved in the Second Chance program are highly qualified, they have completed psychological and pedagogical courses adapted to the mass education system and have at least an average level of English language and Office use. They need support from the institution in order to upgrade and adapt their teaching approach to the particularities of adult education. The 10 LTEVM trainers will take part in the program of preparing the draft, assuming the program of the courses and get actively involved in the program of using and disseminating the acquired knowledge. The management activity aims at selecting, preparing the beneficiaries, achieving the final materials, cooperating with the National Agency and the course provider and reports. The selection will be made by LTEVM, while the training will be in collaboration with ETI. The courses take place for 10 days and involve taking part in workshops and laboratories. The dissemination activities have in view the following stages: disseminating at the school level, for the other educational institutions we collaborate with -in the county and abroad, other interested institutions and the community. The reports will be made by the beneficiaries and the project team. The methods used during the entire project (before, during and after the course) will be interactive methods, group work, projects, brainstorming, analysis and problem solving, the experience exchange concerning ICT and methodology, presenting some sources of teaching information and sites meant to help teachers in their teaching activity. The main results aimed at within the project are: • 10 trainers will improve their IT competences, using technology during classes and will improve their teaching discourse, adapting it to the particularities of the Second Chance learners; • The teachers at the level of the institutions which have programs for adults will benefit from at least 30 teaching materials for the Second Chance and the possibility of using modern technology during classes; • Over 70 learners ( during the first year) will train and improve their competences in the field of using computers; The long-term benefits that we aim at, after the project, are: • The accessibility of the Second Chance program for the adults who did not complete compulsory education; • Reducing school dropout among adult learners; • Attracting those who are part of the illiterate category to school; • Creating competences for the Second Chance learners in order to enable them a better insertion on the labor market, but at the same time, the premises for lifelong learning.
