TEAM UP!
Start date: Dec 31, 2014, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The work plan and activities which have been implemented in our school for a decade are in line with the aims stated bythe Law of Education in primary and secondary schools. In this connection, various activities have been undertaken and many projects have been initiated to develop skills and competencies for their continual development as a spiritual, physical, moral, intellectual and social being, apart from the results of the book and written sources of information oriented learning. But, new researches show that students acquire knowledge more easily if it is taught in the way which is close to them, so there are two equally important directions in which it could be achieved. It is learning outside the classroom based on their own experience and through new information technology. Teachers' competencies for teaching in this way are not enough as they do not acquire the knowledge about such teaching through formal education in colleges, but in some forms of informal learning in countries, which are more developed in this issues. For this reason, 16 teachers from our school, having learned from the previous experiences of colleagues within the Comenius project, have decided for professional training in EU countries to develop their professional competencies that will enable the realization of these aims. The advantages of new technology in teaching process have been recognized by history and religious education teachers, as well as foreign languages teachers who want to replace a book by existing monuments, a city, natural phenomena and the environment itself with the aim to develop their cultural, linguistic and information competencies as well as the students'. Foreign language teachers in lower grades will implement new games and entertainment, as well as innovative techniques for children at an early age to achieve the inner motivation for learning languages. Considering the fact that Rovinj is a bilingual city where Italian and Croatian languages have coexisted for centuries, two class teachers would go to Italy to learn more about Italian culture and tradition which is very close to our area. In this way the students are also taught tolerance and respect for other cultures. Teaching subjects outside the classroom has given good results in the countries where it has been done, so class teachers would go to Prague on the course of outdoor activities organized by the Swedish educational organization. The knowledge how to use the natural resources in a better way will be acquired by an art teacher as well as outdoor activities leaders in order to gain new methods of inspiring learning from the environment and the ways of using natural elements. Biology teacher would visit several schools in Finland, so she would meet Finnish educational system which is possible to incorporate into our program with the aim to have better results. Professional assistant – speech pathologist who works with the students with learning difficulties on a daily basis, has decided to professional development in Spain where she will learn how to deal with stress accumulated during teaching process and how to motivate the students to learn and to continue their education, so the percentage of the students who leave school would be less. Evaluation of the project which aims to acquire the knowledge more successfully would be implemented by the experimental group of the first grade students. During the school year they would have a different approach and techniques of learning and, at the end of the project, we would be able to compare the results of learning acquired with each teaching approach. Direct and positive benefit would have the teachers who would develop their knowledge and skills, the students who would be motivated to learn through experience and our school, which would cooperate with other European schools and recognized in European context, and finally, the city and the local community.
