TEACHING INCLUSIVE THEATRE training assignment abroad for the improvement of inclusive teaching methods
Start date: Dec 31, 2014, End date: Dec 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

TEACHING INCLUSIVE THEATRE was carried out with 24 mobilities for teaching assignments abroad made by 7 teachers of Teatro Due Mondi in Germany, Portugal (2 destinations) and France. Starting point is the theater pedagogy that TDM has recently developed and that aims at promoting social inclusion processes for "non-actors". The mobility project was conceived to improve the training model by testing it with European learners and comparing it with practices of other education organisms in Europe. Due to unavailability of the Norwegian partner, the search for new partners enabled TDM to get in contact again with organizations and learners of previous European projects. Objectives/results achieved. For the trainers: a) new skills and abilities acquired for better interacting with the cultural and social diversity of learners (communication: listening, observing; relational: empathy, analysis of needs, organizational and methodological) b) refining and formalizing of a "collective" methodology (team teaching/collaborative work) in which every trainer has his own specialization and the closing "theatrical action" acts as an "inclusive" catalyst c) in-depth knowledge in the partner countries with regard of: multicultural cohabitation, civil rights, socio-economic issues d) comparison between methods at European level e) developed new organizational skills in the relationship with partners f) developed sense of self-efficacy and strengthened their professional self-esteem Participants: 7 trainers with multi-year experience, expert in adult education, they have been working in one team (6 trainers for each mobility) and run 4 theater workshops; each of them had a different skill (linguistic, rhythmic/voice, visual/scenografic, choreographic/proxemics, coordination of gestures, coordination of theatrical actions). In line with the project objectives, each trainer has performed more than one mobility in order to test his skills in different cultural contexts. During the teaching assignment, TDM trainers were assisted by 4 co-trainers of the Partners organisations: 1 German trainer, 2 Portuguese trainers (1 in Lisbon, 1 in Porto) and 1 French trainer. Learners: the seminars were attended by 54 adult learners, mostly without artistic skills, mainly professionals and students in the social sector, trainers/educators of the artistic/theatrical sector, cultural mediators, pensioners, unemployed. The composition of learner groups was varied by age (from 19 to 75 years) and social context. Teaching assignments (workshops): 1. Köln, Germany, 7-10 May 2015, Partner: Sommerblut Kulturfestival e.V 2. Porto, Portugal, 19-23 October Partner: Festival Internacional de Marionetas do Porto 3. Lisbona, Portugal, 12 to 15 November, Partner: SOU Associação Cultural 4. Vaulx-en-Velin (Lyon), France, 23 to 27 November, Partner: Association ETRE ou AVOIR? The subject of the workshop was agreed each time with the Partners and was relating to: richness, North-South relations, equity and social justice, solidarity. For each teaching assignment internal preparatory meetings were arranged between trainers, preparatory sessions with partners were held on videoconference and a start-up meeting was held together with the referent of each partner. Impact: On trainers, the mobility generated: a) general increase in skills b) greater confidence and awareness of the training method efficiency c) increased ability to work in teams d) greater aptitude to share and interact in multicultural contexts On organizations: a) consolidation of the European Network b) strengthening of relations with stakeholders c) comparison between methodologies of artistic training d) increased management capacity At local / regional level: spreading out of inclusive educational tools for trainers of the artistic and social sector. For learners: general empowerment of the worshop’s participants, openness to others, recognizing the value of diversity, development of solidarity attitudes, comprehension of the effectiveness of the method, awareness of the of the group’s value. Each workshop produced an "outdoor theatrical action" acted by the learners and coordinated by TDM trainers. This action was a sum-up event useful to strengthening the entire training/inclusive process. Long-term impact: The method was defined during the 4 sessions of "teaching assignments" and its basic elements were formalized. With the French partner and the Portuguese (Porto) TDM is now planning an European Partnership for creating a new curriculum that combines this model in the artistic field with other inclusive training in the social field. The partners’ search created the conditions for future projects with possible new partners (Dutch, Spanish, French, German, Austrian).
