Teachers plus: inglese L2 per l'Europa e per l'inclusione
Start date: Jun 6, 2016, End date: Oct 5, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our Institute was established last year, merging different schools to become a “comprehensive school” including pre-school, elementary and middle school students.Following this re-structuring, the teachers feel the need to improve their foreign language skills and acquire new methodologies for language teaching so as to make the teaching and learning of foreign language more engaging and thus more effective and more inclusive. To this purpose, our school has selected 9 teachers who will follow training courses abroad. The selected teachers need to improve their skills in the English language and to develop their knowledge of new teaching methodologies in order to teach foreign languages more creatively and in a more student-centered way, as the National Curriculum underlines.Training will focus in particular on CLIL methodology and on the use of drama techniques in foreign language teaching, and will allow the participating teachers to establish exchange projects with other European teachers; these projects will promote a meaningful and purposeful use of the foreign language as a means for authentic communication and intercultural exchange. This project will not only benefit the individual participants but the school as a whole. On the one hand it will contribute to improve the foreign language skills of the participants and provide them with new EFL teaching methodologies; on the other hand it will give them insight into the European dimension and, by promoting long-distance partnership and exchange projects, it will make possible for them to improve their ICT skills. The newly acquired competences will be disseminated through seminars and workshops aimed at teachers within the Institute as well as teachers coming from other schools in the area. The final goal will be to promote the use of new didactic approaches in the teaching and learning of foreign languages as a means to encourage cultural exchange and get a better insight into other cultures and, through this, enhance the students' motivation. The project, involving at our school and at the local community at large, will in the long run allow us to share and promote best practices in education and teaching and will promote active citizenship among our school and the local community at large.
