Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school has a large student population and offers wide and diverse programs of study. It includes: a Scientific Lyceum of Applied Science (Labs), A Technical Program (Mechanical, Electrical and Computer) and a Business Program which also includes a Tourism Program. It is also a centre for adult education C.P.I.A. (Ex C.T.P.), a centre for ECDL computer exams and for Cambridge UCLES Certification Exams. It has also been connected to the net “Sofia” for some years, which promotes training for the valorization of the professionalism of the teachers. In February our school signed a protocol with the net “CLIL Sicilia”. Our school has a staff of teachers and office personnel that have in the past managed various European Projects such as: Leonardo da Vinci, Comenius, Grundtvig, and various language courses for Certification, study courses and internship programs abroad which were funded by the European Community or Regional Programs. Our school has been cooperating actively with Onlus AFS-INTERCULTUE for some years. The project, which conforms to the guidelines established by “Europe 2020” and the objectives contained in the program, aims at improving the quality of teaching, the creation of a new professionalism, the amplification of study programs, and growth in the cultural and European dimension. Eight teachers will attend courses in a partner school strengthening and developing their skills. The partner school will organize all the activities and accommodations in the host country and will collaborate in the valorization and dissemination This project includes two different groups of teachers. The first group is made up of four English teachers who, after many years of work, wish to expand their linguistic abilities, update, innovate, and practice their method of teaching in other contexts, also using new technology. The purpose is above all that of improving the process of teaching-learning, interesting the students in motivated learning, thus reducing loss of interest, which is very high in a technical institute and giving major value to excellence. The second group includes four teachers of scientific subjects who have the language skills needed and want to attend courses to improve their linguistic ability and learn new methods, collect innovative ideas and material that they can use in their classrooms upon their return Both groups of teachers work closely together to form a CLIL work team able to develop and use motivating didactic strategies for the students. The object is to learn a foreign language as an instrument of communication, which will enable students to enter the working world. The main activity will be to attend specific courses, seminars and workshops , organized by the partner school , that have appropriate material and activities that will allow the teachers to expand their linguistic skills and acquire new methodologies. There must also be guided visits to enrich the cultural horizons and European dimensions of the participants. The course will take place in two different periods (the first group at the end of July, and the other group at the end of the second or third trimester) based on the needs of the school. The new professionalism and competences acquired through the exchange of experiences with other foreign teachers not only will build the motivation and confidence of the participants but will also be transmitted through seminars and workshops to the other teachers in the school. This will have a positive result as regards to the quality of teaching in the school. The adhesion to the school net will also enable the spread of new strategies of teaching. The stay in foreign country and the contact with teachers coming from other countries will broaden the intercultural knowledge of the participants, create international cooperation allowing the participants to establish new contacts and develop and organize new European projects for international exchanges together with other schoolsThe project will be evaluated by the Commission of our school, which manages the project, by the Teaching body, the Class Council, the students, the families, and the partner school.
