Teacher Training Course

Our project partner will offer a course for our staff which will help them to develop their language skills and become more fluent and confident when teaching in the foreign language; 3 participants (1 participant each in Malta, Cefalù, Valencia) Katrin Märzinger is a young and ambitious member of our team. She has just finished university, and started teaching German and English at school in September. Not only is she teaching her obligatory lessons in the teacher training programme (Unterrichtspraktikum), but also several additional lessons, including a remedial course for weaker students. Barbara Simmel has been teaching at our school for nine years. She teaches the subjects English, Mathematics and Spanish. Melanie Ackerer joined our staff five years ago and teaches the subjects Italian, Geography and International Culture. The course will include the following units: Language Development Language awareness: exploring and building up lexical and grammatical areas Developing the four languages skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing Communication skills: gaining confidence and fluency Phonology: working on stress, rhythm, intonation and phonetic sounds and symbols Increasing awareness of key methods and approaches used in language teaching Experimenting with classroom techniques e.g. using authentic materials, using ICT, etc. Hands-on ideas and activities that can be adapted to the classroom creating own materials and lessons Elements of job shadowing and work experience so that our teachers can see how teachers work in other classrooms Anticipated results and impact as well as long term benefits: new methodology, more confidence and versatility in foreign language teaching
