Teacher Refresher Course (with CLIL)

Context:We are a bilingual semiprivate school of new creation from the Community of Madrid. We belong to Chesterton Education Group. We have two bilingual courses in Primary, each one with two classrooms. It's a school whose methodology is based on individualized education and it focuses on the teaching of languages and new technologies. In Secondary Education we work with the project One to One having our students using the iPads instead of textbooks. Apart form the classes in English we are implementing the methodology CLIL which means that some areas from the curriculum are taught in English. Apart from that we are a Cambridge English school and we prepare our students for the Cambridge examinations. We have also other educational alliances with Somerset Academy, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and CECE.Participants:Estefanía Domingo, 36 years-old, is a primary school teacher especialized in English; a kindergarden teacher with a degree in Psychology. She has lived in England for several years working as a language assistant. She has also worked for seven years for Burgos City Hall in childhood daycare centers. Estefanía considers that she needs training on CLIL methodology.Laura Martínez, 29 years old, is a primary school teacher and she has also workedin kindergarten and secondary school (English teacher in PROA program for foreign students) Related to her last job she has also worked as a sociocultural monitor for the Spanish Red Cross, apart from working for several years in Ireland.Mª José Montero, 35 years old, is a secondary teacher with a Masters Degree on Education, especialized in Maths and a Phd in Agricultural Engineer. She has taught Maths, Technology and Natural Science in the last years. Besides she has collaborated tieh the university in the field of research with a grant from the Ministry of Education.Loreto Pérez, 39 years-old, is a primary teacher with CAE, a nurse and has a Master in Midwifery obtained in England. She has been a teacher for several years and she has worked as a midwife in England.All the teacher have been selected because they teach subjects in English following the CLIL methodology.Activities:week 1:Monday - Pre course task review.- Reviewing materials and progress tests.Tuesday Warmers and fillers.-Teaching vocabulary and peer teaching.Wednesday: Classroom observation.- Use of technologies and IW in the classroom.thursday: Music and songs in the classroom.- Alternative teaching methodologies.Friday: Teaching writing.- Irish Cultural Studies: poetry and literature. Week 2:Monday: teaching pronunciation.- peer teaching- teaching readingTuesday: - Classroom observation.- Teaching listeningWednesday: Help with spelling- Adapting and exploiting texts in the context of CLIL.Thursday: Task based learning.- Use of video in the classroom.Friday: Teaching speaking.- Materials evaluation. Methodology:In the short-term period the impact will be only beneficial to the people taking part in the project as they will be involved in the training course. In the medium-term it will be the community which will receive the benefits of the training due to the courses and lectures that will be held in all the schools from the group. In the long-term period, the European Community will benefit from this training as the participants will be perfectly qualified with a high level of English and ready to work any place in the world.
