Teacher Development - Oxford Teachers' Academy Summer School
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

As a secondary school of general education the Heilig-Hartcollege of Waregem (Belgium) has a firm reputation of European exchange projects with various countries, with English as the lingua franca. The school also considers studying languages at a high level important for the pupils' development in general and for their further education in particular. Because the school wants to keep the bar high for English, it wants the teacher who is responsible for the lower grades' English department to participate in the Oxford Teachers' Academy Summer School 2015. This professional development programme focusses on teaching strategies and techniques, classroom skills, integrating technology into the lessons, fine tuning language skills, and deepening the knowledge of British culture. On his return from the course, the participant will share the acquired knowledge and skills with his colleagues, the new ideas and methods will be tested in the teaching practice and evaluated. The participant will also disseminate what he has learnt in a workshop on the 'Day of English' (Eekhoutcentrum Kortrijk). This project should result in improved qualifications of the English teaching staff, ready to integrate good practices and new methods, and more confident pupils with an increased capacity to operate at international level.
