Taste of youth - a European food culture tour

It grows the largest youth generation ever. But young people in Europe live much unhealthier than any generation before them. The result: Physical and mental illnesses are too strong. Young people need an independent space for reflection; to be able to aware their own health interests in an age appropriate way. Nutrition and food provide cultural, social and personal identity in addition to the satiation. “Youth eating culture” through marketing of the food industry has an impact on society. Not to reduce Juvenile eating fast food -Culture, it is more complex and also an expression of one's lifestyle. Young people in difficult life, often caused by multiple social disadvantages require in the matter of development of an own healthy eating behaviours special guidance and non-formal learning opportunities. To overcoming health problems and risky behaviour is often an important condition to successfully strive and accomplish the educational and professional integration. Non-formal learning as a shared, cross-cultural, experiential based learning environment offers special opportunities to fill this gap and to provide sustained impetus for the development of personality, especially for young people with lower opportunities. To plan the food on its own, to buy needed products and prepare meals on its own, which provides opportunities for experiences of success, growth of confidence to be able to something and joy. The special learning arrangements allow identity formation and stabilization of personality of disadvantaged young people on a low level held by meeting and intercultural exchange (away from everyday life, confrontation and conflict with the new, stranger, opportunities for experiences of success). The focus of the project are 3 intercultural cooking workshops in the partner countries Germany, Romania and Lithuania, which meet disadvantaged young people from three nations and cook together, reflect together on their own eating culture in Europe, create an intercultural collection of recipes and ways for their own and share it by each other. The participants should be able to also perceive gender perspectives. Objectives of the project and references to the Youth in Action Erasmus + are: • cooking together, reflecting divers tradition in food, eating and culture strengthens health skills contributes to identity formation and creates by the participants self-efficacy experiences. • Cooking together allows intercultural practical experience. • The project addresses disadvantaged young people with fewer opportunities in all three countries and to give them a suitable experience and adventure for social learning, identity and diversity in Europe. • Young people recognize the topic of healthy food and eating in their cross-border contexts with links to sustainability, globalization problems and diversity of life of young people in Europe. 24 young people aged 14-18 years from Germany, Romania and Lithuania will participation the project. The youth exchange project contributes to the personal development of the participants, because strengthen the identity and self-efficacy in focus. Young people have the opportunity in a practical setting to experience their own mental strength, motivation and the ability to reflect on strengthening so that they can cope with further learning and socialization tasks successfully. The participants should promote their health and nutrition awareness, which is considered as an important resource for the successful design of the transition from school to the world of work. The project represents a contribution to the awareness of an awareness of Europe and cultural diversity. It promotes the development of the following key competences of the participants: 1. improving the social and intercultural competence 2. improving initiative 3. Cultural awareness and expression In general, the participants will strengthen and get an understanding, that healthy food and eating is an important value for their own development. Participants should understand by themselves as "ambassadors" / "witnesses" in the peer group. In addition, the partners expect effects in areas such as: - psychosocial stability - impetus in the field of social skills, strengthening reflectivity, personal self-concept - Opening for solidarity behaviour - more openness to foreign cultures, less xenophobia, - positive attitude to Europe with its ethnic and national diversity, as well as to the development challenges. The project is also an expression of the co-operation of youth work, school, business schools and business.
