PROJECT
FINISHED
The project "Tartu county´s youth to the map" contributes to creating an overview of the opinion of the youth (aged between 13 - 18) in Tartu county. This overview includes aspects related to their worries and joys in youth participation and policy making spheres. As a result of the survey taken, a county-wide network of youth policy making is going to be formed in which different youth organizations could spread information, ask for advice, learn from each others experiences or communicate with the deciders on a wider scale. Many municipalities still don´t have local youth councils. One aim of the project is to familiarize the youth with that kind of participation opportunities to a higher extent. In addition to that, we are aiming to strengthen the contact of youth with the local community leaders and youth workers.
One more main target of this project is assuring the sustainability of the youth policy making department in our organization. This is going to be made through forming a mentoring program and passing on the current experiences to the next generation of activists.
In the first group discussions we are expecting mainly the members of the youth participation councils to attend. We are expecting about 25 people to take part in the event. However, when it comes to the survey, we expect almost 9000 students to say out their opinion since this is the statistical number of people aged 13 - 18 in out county. There are 23 municipalities in Tartu county. For the co-vision seminar we anticipate the minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 people to participate from each municipality. All together it would be around 45 participants in the seminar.
In order to manage the current project we are going to use the methods mastered during the previous projects in Tartu County´s Youth Council. The project manager has also earlier experiences from Rõngu Youth Municipal Council in which she has been the chair person. The manager as well as the core group will both plan the time limits with care in order to avoid ignoring them. The project manager is going to make sure that the budget is used purposefully. The core group is acknowledged that coordinating the tasks, both inside and out of the group, will provide the security for avoiding misunderstandings between different partners.
The results an effets of the project are partially going to be visible during the co-vision seminar in which the county-wise policy making network will strengthen and the contacts between youth organizations are renewed. The members of the core group will develop and confirm their theoretical knowledge related to public speaking and undertaking a survey. The participants of the co-vision seminar are going to develop a better contact with the local municipality leaders, supported by our team. In the long run this will cause some positive changes in the field of youth work and policy making in the local municipalities. We are hoping that in 2015 the suggesting made by young people are going to be achieved. In addition, we expect the county-wise unity among the youth to strenghten as well as the cooperation between different youth organizations, indicated by a greater number of partner projects in the future.
