Tanuljunk - tanítsunk együtt Európában!
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The topic of our project was connected to Teaching and learning foreign languages, International cooperation, partnership and development and Improving quality in institutions and methods. One of the major strategic aims of our institution is to prepare our students to European citizenship, and provide the opportunity for them to obtain the necessary language level. We have special foreign language education in our school and we put great emphasis on both supporting talents and helping weaker students to catch up. Our language teachers need continuous development where they learn up-to-date language teaching methods, introduce those to their process of teaching and learning and integrate civilization materials into their courses. During Erasmus+ program the language teachers improved their foreign language communication skills, cultural and methodology knowledge in the target country courses. Three German language teachers took part in a two-week-long school visit and observation in Germany. Two primary school teachers learnt about new motivation techniques, and development of creativity in Bodelshausen. One secondary school German teacher studied modern classroom management. During their visits they introduced Hungarian culture on lessons and developed the cooperation between the two schools. Three English language teachers took part in methodology training courses in the United Kingdom for two weeks. One primary school teacher learnt about the integration of creative activities and maintaining motivation. One secondary school teacher developed her cultural knowledge and obtained recent findings on the topic of critical and creative thinking in language learning. The head of department got an insight to the development of key competences and the usage of ICT in the classroom. They all visited schools and collected practical experiences. All language teachers shared their knowledge in a workshop with the other language teachers. We needed to develop our teachers’ foreign language competencies to be able to broaden the cooperation of our school with foreign partners. The two-week-long English language course in England for 13 staff members completed their self-sponsored in-training. The participants of the language courses were four primary school teachers from different areas, four secondary school teachers (teaching Biology, Geography, Mathematics, Nationality German Language and History) Head of the School, Deputy Head of the School, pedagogical assistant, financial assistant and IT system manager. We considered that it is important to employ experts on every level of our institution who can play active role in innovations and partnerships and not only in Hungarian. The Head of the School, the Deputy Head of the School and the Head of the Science Department developed their foreign language competencies in an intensive communicative language course a few months later to get ready for the cooperation with other institutions on the level of leadership. After the language courses the motivation towards language learning has increased among teachers. During the two-year-period we developed partnership with a Swedish school and during this process the deputy Head of the School, the head of the language department and the student council supporter teacher travelled to the school for a week. The study visit give us insight into institutional structure, the work of the student council, the background of the educational system which achieved great results in international tests, methods of competence development. The leaders of our school are open to the new practices we saw in Sweden. As the title of our project “Learn and teach together in Europe” shows the two-year-period meant learning from each other on the one hand during the mobilities we acquired foreign mentality, spirituality, attitude and methods. On the other hand having arrived home our approach, educational tools and culture improved, we transmitted our knowledge to our colleagues and this way our organization strengthened. With the Swedish collaboration our school has stepped towards internationalization and we have given the opportunity of efficient language practise to our students. The experiences will infiltrate into the daily practice, it will be recorded in the school pedagogical program in order to be maintainable and confirm the development. In the short run the educational culture and language knowledge of our teachers and staff has improved they have become open and confident towards international partnerships. In the long run we plan to involve our colleagues and the students into partner school projects to promote methodological variety and language learning in our school. The result of the successful mobilities is the improved commitment of the teachers and leaders to development. In 2016 we applied for a new KA1 project and a KA2 project with the collaboration of five nations.
