The TALES project wants to develop classroom practice using narratives and oral and digital storytelling in order to improve the acquisition of key competences and personal development of pupils.The project will develop new teaching methods and materials involving storytelling and include them as innovative approach and new content in initial and in-service teacher training courses. By its very nature TALES will support to creativity, literacy and a number of key competences: mother tongue, foreign languages, digital competences, cultural awareness and expression, social and civic competence and learning to learn. The approach will have a greater appeal on students’ motivation because of the interactive and creative elements and the valuing of different cultures. Therefore TALES will contribute to reducing early school leaving, improving the learning of students with migrant background and promoting inclusive approaches to learning.Introducing stories and storytelling by the pupils & students is a great way to improve creativity and social, emotional and artistic skills. Introducing stories and storytelling by the teachers is introducing a great didactic tool. By offering subject content as a narrative one improves the quality of the transfer of this content: transformed into images which improves the learning effect. This project will focus on the linguistic, interactive, performing, social, cultural and multicultural aspects of stories and storytelling. Aims:To develop new methodologies and materials for using stories and storytelling in teaching and learning and to develop the teacher capacity for implementing them.TALES will do this through research, collecting good practice and piloting oral and digital storytelling projects in a wide range of age groups and social cultural settings. This will be presented in a manual, video material, training and Comenius courses and facilitated by a sustainable Europe wide e-platform & storytelling portal: ‘1001 voices’
