In 2002 seven delegates of open air museums from seven different Europe country met in Jamtli, Sweden. Main topic of discussion was the role of the museum in educating people, storing and sharing long-perspective values with museum visitors. In the meeting all delegates formed common aim to make pedagogical initiative more attractive from European perspective. Museums should stimulate people to seek for new wisdom, skills and values.
The meeting was most fruitful. Two years later all these delecates found to be useful to meet again in Domein Bokrijk Open Air museum, Belgium since the meeting in Sweden was impellent and discussion needed to be continue. So the open air museums network LLOAM (Lifelong Learning in Open Air Museums) was formed. Currently LLOAM unites 14 different open air museums of Europe. By now there have already been six meetings (also in Tallinn, Estonian Open Air Museum).
Estonian Open Air Museum definetly wants to carry on the productive collaboration to be competitive and internationally accepted and recognised memory institution promoting activities such as reashearching, collecting, maintaining, mediating and educating. Visitors come to museums more and more to learn and to get experience. The museums duty is to be up to these expectations. Museums have proved to be capable of creating interesting and memorable teaching enviroment.
7th meeting of LLOAM network museums will take place in 10-13 September 2014 in Denmark Aarhus, greet by Den Gamle By Open-Air Museum. This years main topic is "Being about Something to Being for Somebody-The development in museums" and it will focus on museums contemporary role and museum visitors developed expectations. Four days of meeting will be full of discussions, workshops, groupworks and will make guest museums comprehensively acquaintance with Aarhus Den Gamle By museums working order and museums pedagogy. Estonian Open-Air Muesum in return will present and report their museum educational situation, ideas, vision and progress.
7th meeting of LLOAM would be invaluable experience in staff training because it will give many international contacts, courage and motivation to implement fresh ideas in Estonia. Estonian Open-Air Museum have been proved thoughout museums long operational history to be active in organizing different events to raise historyknowledge and culturalknowledge, irrespective of visitors age or nationality but preserving their national identity.
