Start date: Nov 1, 2014, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

There were three institutions taking part in the project called „Practice in Essen”. The Secondary Economics and IT Vocational School was the sender. It has courses in Economics, IT and foreign languages and students aqcuire knowledge for their subsequent qualifications (e.g. software developer, administrator in finance and accounting), as well as for their university studies. Elektropower GmbH in Essen is a company which, besides producing and distributing electronical and IT items, organises IT-trainings. This made it possible for the company to be able to provide the IT background, as well as the theoratical and practical training. For this reason it was suitable for our students to learn and work task-oriented at the same time. The third institution - Professional connection - Ruhr (also based in Essen) is a non-governmental organisation recruiting volounteering specialists. It organises training programs, conferences and seminars, and also provides help in finding concrete parners for training and practice. It takes charge of the programs other than those organised by Elektropower GmbH (visits at other training institutions, companies and firms of the sector, where the participants can study and practice networking). The participants of the program were the 10th and 11th grade students of the IT and foreign language department of the Vocational School of Economics and IT of Pestszentlőrinc (30 participants), who study English, the language of the project, at an advanced level. The program of the project was adjusted according to the training needs of the participants. The program was in accordance with the local requirements of the new national curricula with respect to the compulsory summer practice of the students. For this reason, 100% of the training was recognised as equal to the compulsory summer practice. According to the pedagogical program of our institution the educational program should be designed so as to observe the integration principle, the acquired information should be systematised in order to be turned into useful and efficient knowledge. We pay attention to the students’ different abilities and interests, and we think it necessary to offer a large variety of optional activities apealing to their personalities. This also happened during the program mentioned. Our school lies on the outskirts of the capital city. The social background of the students is diverse: there are students living in poor residential areas or in the countryside, and there are also better-off students. There were students in the group who have never travelled abroad. The professional goal of the project was for our students to take an insight into the german IT-industry, get to know its particularities, put the theoretical knowledge aqcuired at school into task-oriented practice in English (object-oriented programming, networking), and meet the institutions and the participants of the german IT-training system. Another goal of the project was to develop the linguistic and social skills of the participants. An additional goal was for our accompanying teachers to make use of the newly acquired pedagogical methods and technologies, and to find possibilities of adapting them to the school curriculum and to our training system. Considering their experience abroad, the acquired linguistic knowledge, the grown intercultural tolerance, the open-mindedness they got, the expected profit of the project was that the participants would succeed easier on the labour market and their chances of getting a job would rise. Besides, thanks to the international experiences, our teachers had the possibility to meet good routines in the curriculum and efficient pedagogical methods, that we could incorporate in our training system - this way, the quality of our training could improve. The success of our project could also stimulate other schools to apply. In the long run, the project could also start an extensive cooperation on a national and international level.
