Swedish Apprentices and Teachers Experience Sustainable Construction in Europe 2014-2016
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Construction Program at Ebersteinska gymnasiet has since 2000 had mobility projects for the construction pupils within Leonardo da Vinci together with our partners in Ireland and in recent years also with France and Germany. We have sent students taking the third year of vocational school to the three countries for three weeks and have received German and French students accordingly. We have also, all four partners together, had a Partnership project around Passive Houses, where we at Ebersteinska gymnasiet were co-ordinators. These projects have been very stimulating for the program. It has raised the status of the program, increased student motivation, strengthened cooperation among different teacher categories and between the construction industry and our school. We now want to develop this cooperation further with mobility projects within the Erasmus + with the following changes: 1. In addition to sending eight students per year to Germany and France, as before, we now want to send at total of 20 teachers from the Construction program on job shadowing for a few days to the same schools. We want them to take part of the Germans' experience of teaching about renewable energy and sustainable development, and French interest for validation, comparison of assessment and curriculum. 2. Our Irish contact persons will retire and have also because of the recession had increasingly difficulties to get hold of internships to our target students. Therefore we want to send our painter students to Les Compagnons du Devoir's school of painting in Tours instead. The organisation's way to take care of the students is the same in all their schools in France and we know that they organize the students' stay in an extraordinary way. They must work hard and learn a lot. Furthermore, we want our teachers' of painting to job shadow and to see the education at the school. 3. The Construction program's new department, Excavation and Construction work, has a need to develop the education and to take part of the latest developments in machinery and new teaching aids, to ensure the quality of education and to have as up-to-date training as possible. Therefore we want to send the head master of the construction program and four teachers for a four-day course in Malaga, which the machine company Pon-CAT gives next autumn. There they can take note of the latest findings in the field at seminars, lectures and demonstrations on a display ground .They will also seek out new contacts (schools and businesses) in Spain to try to find a new partner for an upcoming exchange of students. The course has many participants from different countries and can also help us to create a new network of contacts. Our project has had a tremendous impact on the development of the Construction program and the participating students' development. Our aim now is to also develop the Excavation and Construction department in the same way. We also want our teachers at the Construction program to get inspiration and new knowledge by jobshadowing French and German teachers, which hopefully will lead to further development of curriculum and assessment. We also hope to be able to send four students in their third year for three weeks to a school and/or a company in Spain during 2016. It would raise the status of the education and inspire more students to apply to the department, which is needed in view of the great need for trained construction and machine labour. Our Swedish partners from the construction industry will help us to disseminate the results of the project in meetings, in professional journals and through their contacts. Our students will tell the pupils in year 2 of their trip and participate in the Open House at the school and on the school's evaluation days. We will also inform about the project in the school newsletters and on internal television. We have previously been asked to talk about our projects at briefings at Östsam and at the National Agency and we would gladly do that again.
