Hajdu-Bihar and Bihor counties are rich in thermal water. The aim of this project is to estimate the geothermal potential of Sacuieni and Letavertes localities in order to be used for energy purposes. Also the possibilities for geothermal energy use by local companies are analysed. This research is a multidisciplinary research involving specialists in geology, chemistry, geophysics, geographers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, economics, management, tourism etc. The general objective of the project is construction of a GIS based database related to geothermal data in the analysed zone, determination of physical and chemical parameters of geothermal wells based on measurements, determination of the economic exploitation time of geothermal reservoirs, optimization from economical point of view of thermal water temperature and level in the reservoir, new conceptions for geothermal systems.The target groups of the project are the local governments of the two localities. Also the companies which use energy for their activities can benefit from the results of the project. The project analyses the possibility to build a local community independent from energy point of view (so the inhabitants are indirectly members of the target groups). The results of the research can be used by all students and educational staff of all institutions for which the parameters of thermal water are important.The main specific activities of the project and results are: study the geothermal potential of the micro-region; data collection (measurements at wells); pumping tests; determination of thermal water layers useful from economical point of view; estimation of energy stored and economically exploitable etc.; communication activities are: round table discussions in Oradea and Debrecen respectively, webpage of the projects (with all the data), broshures, advertisements in local newspapers.
