Project location : Global Ecovillage Network, Findhorn, Scotland, with placements in Findhorn Foundation and Newbold Trust. Project themes: Education, Outreach, Communication, Fundraising, and IT tools, Sustainable food production, Community development, Social entrepreneurshipTimeline: Project submission: 26 April 2016 Placements: September 2016 to 2017Placement duration: For 12 monthsEligibility: Young people 18 to 30 years of age; from the EU and EEA areaNumber of participants: 3Volunteer roles: Volunteers will be working in various departments of the Findhorn Foundation, the social enterprise of Newbold Trust, and, mainly, in the GEN office. They will receive training and gain extensive practice in using a range of practical and professional skills in areas of Education, Outreach, Communication, Fundraising, and IT tools, along with experiences of living in the Findhorn Foundation and Newbold Trust to learn organic food growing, wholesome cooking, and providing services in the hospitality business.Community living: Volunteers will be living and working within the intentional communities of Findhorn Foundation and Newbold Trust. They will be trained to skilfully participate in group processes that create and maintain a healthy community culture, and will gain experience using useful tools for communication, relationship-building and decision-making.Training and support: Besides practical training for working in the departments, we offer our volunteers a set of training sessions to enhance their knowledge of key areas of sustainability, and support them in developing skills to work for positive change in their local communities and wider social systems. We also provide ongoing mentoring and pastoral support for volunteers.The project offers participants a structured, experiential learning journey over the course of 12 months, to support the development of a range of skills, knowledge and tools that lead them to meaningful and sustainable livelihood opportunities, and enable them to become efficient leaders bringing about positive change in their communities.The participants will be individuals who are passionate and actively engaged with issues on 'Environment and climate change' 'International cooperation, international relations, development cooperation' and 'ICT- new technologies-digital competencies'. Formal higher education is not mandatory, but at least 2 months experience volunteering or other experience is required. The participants must also have a basic understanding of GEN's mission and objectives. The project has the following two broad objectives:1. Supporting young people develop skills to increase employability through working within an organization that aims to bring about positive, sustainable change in society.2. To support young people to develop skills, knowledge and experience in communication and team building tools, to empower them as leaders and role models. The expected tangible outcomes for young people are: 1. Enhanced practical and professional skills in a Charity office environment supporting the sustainable community networks around the world through educational tools, communication, outreach, fundraising and IT support, ultimately connecting people, resources and ideas for a sustainable world.2. Enhanced practical and professional skills in areas of sustainable food production, food preparation, wellbeing hospitality and event management, contributing to better employability and sustainable life skills.3 Enhanced understanding of social enterprise and increased confidence and appropriate skills to productively contribute to projects that are financially viable and socially beneficial.4. Enhanced personal and social skills, as well as familiarity with group building methods and community organizing and tools to positively and efficiently participate in the life of their social networks and communities.5. Enhanced knowledge and awareness of issues and current challenges around environmental sustainability and social justice in Europe and beyond, and enhanced skills for active and responsible global citizenship.
