Sustainable development and competitiveness through increase of the energy efficiency by use of solar energy and smart systems (Solar and smart energy systems)
Start date: Apr 21, 2013, End date: Apr 21, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The proposed project focuses on promotion of RE utilization, especially SE smart technologies, etc. thus creating an environment for capacity increase for sustainable development in the target CB region. It is intended to transfer the experience and knowledge of the project partners for studying and better understanding and utilizing RE, i.e. SE and smart systems, and possibilities for their utilization for building SME capacities, and sustainable economic development of the CB region. For this purpose, methodology for selecting an adequate solar system, accompanied by legal, economic, technical and technological conditions will be promoted among direct project beneficiaries The project envisages education and consulting activities regarding RE utilization with a focus on SE. These activities, intended for SMEs, stakeholders, students will contribute to the project implementation impact in the long run by raising awareness and knowledge level of the subject matter. Concrete measures for the implementation of solar projects will be proposed in the Action Plan proposal draft addressed to help the development of municipalities. The project will not only promote, but prepare the stakeholders and decision makers of the CB region to cope with challenges of the renewable energy market, enabling them either to utilize or offer market solutions for SE smart system utilization. The project will contribute to new job openings in the renewable energy sector of the CB region. Each of the involved partner institution has unique and substantial experience in SE smart technologies, which is of key importance for successful project realization: Regional Center for Energy Efficiency for South and East Serbia offers experience in education, promotion and implementation of energy efficient technologies and RE sources utilization; Central Laboratory for Solar Energy and New Energy Sources of the BAS offers respectable knowledge and experience in implementing various solar technologies. GIS Foundation – Transfer Center helps the process of technology transfer of compatible research- development products, know-how, consultancy and expertise with a focus on SMEs. Achievements: The project envisioned and achieved the following results:- Organization of 8 events in Serbia and Bulgaria (Promoting Conference, Awareness Rising Seminar, Workshop and Company Visit, Concluding Conference),- Conducted a study visit to Germany in order to transfer best practice experience to the crossborder region.- Production and distribution of the following promotional and information materials: 1 Poster for each event, 1 brochure, 1 technical documentation catalogue, technical documentation of solar systems for 6 buildings, 3 solar energy potential studies (solar thermal, photovoltaic and solar smart), 2 economic and legal analysis (one for Serbia and one for Bulgaria), 2 Action plans to increase solar energy utilization (one for Serbia and one for Bulgaria), Methodology for choosing solar energy system installation, Methodology for financial evaluation of solar energy project investments.- A project website was developed: http://ipa-solarenergy.net/en- A report for financing solar energy projects for 6 chosen buildings was prepared, and delivered to relevant stakeholders and/or decision makers. The project was successfully completed in April 2014.
