Surju Põhikooli alustava inglise keele õpetaja professionaalsuse ning keelepädevuse tõstmine
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Surju Basic School is a small village-school in Pärnu County. The staff consist of 26 persons (including teachers and other personnel). There are 81 pupils in the school. Although the number of students is small, the school gets good results in olympiads and contests of different subjects. The school values good old traditions, but is also very opened to innovations and new teaching methods. Most of the teachers have great teaching experience. There are only a few young teachers in the school, because it is difficult for a small village school to find new personnel. Therefore the school encourages the teachers to develop their personal and teaching skills. Young and new teachers are especially welcome to do that.In the beginning of the 2015/2016 school-year a new higher-level English teacher was welcomed to school, because the previous teacher had left work suddenly. As the new teacher doesn´t have teaching experience from the past and neither specialized education, the school-board advises her to take part in a training course in Great Britain. It is found necessary because it will help the teacher to practice her own language skills, gain some good practical methods for teaching English, and get some authentic information about British history, culture and find out what is Britain like today. As a result the teacher will be more confident in her work with student, which will motivate the students to reach new goals in learning English. It is also expected that thanks to international experience and new contacts teacher will start with new international cooperations projects, such as eTwinning or Comenius.
