Supporting innovative counselling and guidance: building dialogue between research and practice

This project will pilot a network for guidance and counselling services using ICT exchanges. The network is targeted at practitioners, managers, researchers, trainers, students and policy makers in a range of settings, from educational establishments to public authorities, where guidance and counselling services are employed. Target groups will be brought together by the project's development of a 'European Guidance and Counselling Research Forum' website. A central aim of the project is to interface research with practice experience to improve services to clients and enhance the lifelong learning skills of the website's users; a key focus being the identification of gaps and problems in relation to equal opportunities in guidance and counselling. As an on-line tool, the website will comprise a comprehensive platform designed for interactive and focused knowledge sharing and transformation. Expert groups, selected from the target groups in each of the five participating countries, will initially meet face-to-face to discuss selected issues of policy and practice related to equal opportunities. From here, discussions will be continued online, with summaries of discussions provided in English. The website will further contain a library section as a reference resource for discussions. The proposal ensures the evolution and transfer of innovative ideas, training and professional development to a wider community, in the fields of guidance and counselling, beyond those initially involved in the project as expert groups. The project will be disseminated interactively through the website and a variety of other means including workshops, conferences and publications.
