Süsist digilauani. Kultuuride kohtumised kunsti- ja disainipraktikatel Euroopas.
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project is initiated by the need to raise relevance of art and design studies of Tartu Art School, and Estonian vocational education in general, to the prevalent labour-market trends. The main characteristics of the industry’s current labour market are the growing need for qualified labour in digital design areas, increasing local and international mobility and flexible work arrangements, including distant work and self-employment. As a vocational educator in the field of art and design, Tartu Art School’s mission is to respond to the field’s labour market needs, providing learners with the adequate competencies. Due to the above, the project concentrates in developing transversal competencies of the participants, including not only the specific professional skills but also labour market competences, cultural and linguistic skills as well as social competencies to better meet the needs of the current labour market. The project also aims to enhancing the quality of TAS curricula according to the labour market needs in order to provide strong and well-performing education, as well as to cooperating with the project partners in further recognition of competencies gained through international mobility. During the project, 16 Tartu Art School students from 4 different art and design programmes will have international learning periods/training placements in 7 partner schools or enterprises in Germany, Italy, Spain, Latvia, Finland and Iceland: 4 graphic designers, 4 decorator-stylists, 4 3D-visualizers, 4 illustrators. The learning periods at school will be combined with on-the job learning in the participating organisations’ business incubation centres or enterprises. The participants will be selected in competition and provided with relevant cultural, linguistic and organizational support before the learning period abroad. The training programmes will be prepared in cooperation with the receiving partners. After the training period the activities will be evaluated by the participating organizations and by the learners. The learners will compile a portfolio of their works created during the training period. The portfolios and/or other art works created abroad will be exhibited in the end of the project. The exhibition opening will be arranged along with the dissemination round table for work life representatives and other relevant stakeholders. Internationally, the project results will be analyzed, evaluated and disseminated in a regular meeting and exhibition of the European network of vocational art schools. Project teams have been set in all the participating organizations to manage the project. Other relevant staff – teachers, supervisors and curriculum specialists, will be supporting the work of the teams. Tartu Art School has developed the project time-plan which have been agreed with the partners. In the project preparation phase the participating organizations have signed Letters of Intent which define the roles and tasks of the partners, duration of the training period and numbers of participants. Specific dates and fields as well as the structure of the training periods have been discussed and agreed within correspondence between the partners. In the course of the project activities, quality agreements and work programmes will be signed between the receiving and sending organizations and the participants and financial agreements between the participants and Tartu Art School. The project has positive effect on art and design studies in Tartu Art School, both for students and the organization, and therefore on the industry’s labour market in general. The international hands-on experience and transversal competencies developed in the course of the learning periods abroad will increase the learners’ opportunities in the labour market and on the other hand improves the quality and availability of adequately qualified labour. The project strengthens the connection between education and world of work, improving the collaboration in preparing diversely qualified labour for the field and influencing employers’ attitudes in the area of training possibilities. Positive outcomes and impact on students, art and design studies and participating organizations raises the attractiveness of vocational education in the field and therefore the opportunities of the future labour market.
