Students Online Safety
End date: Oct 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The title of the project is Students’ Online Safety (SOS).Nowadays, youngsters have easier access to the internet however, not many are aware of certain dangers that they can fall into that may have long-lasting effects on their lives. The aim was not to forbid them from using technology but rather to make them aware of certain dangers that they are not aware of, and to point out that perhaps some of these activities online may act against them in the future if they are not careful. The project aimed at parents who should be aware to these dangers before and after purchasing these tools for their children. Also it set out to find ways to supervise online use so as to guide youth to a safer internet. The 4 topics were: Cyber-bullying, Online Reputation, Sexting, and Smart-Phones.These were chosen as they are all related to everyday internet use by youths while most have little or no knowledge of them. Our project involved 8 partner schools: Cyprus (coordinator), Greece, Spain, Turkey, Slovenia, Germany, Poland and Finland. This contributed in making a better comparison/analysis in order to reach certain conclusions, for example whether there were differences in awareness levels, and gain insight in methods used in schools around Europe to combat such issues. The agreed age was 15 years old and approximately 25 students from each school were involved.Activities included a theatrical performance, video-clips, lectures. Some of the outcomes:creation of the logo, a website, posters, the production and distribution of leaflets, as well as the creation and statistical analysis of questionnaires. Finally, we managed to evaluate the results of the project using a comparative statistical analysis.By the end of the project and with the use of the outcomes produced throughout, we were able to asses the impact of the project. Some of the conclusions:all groups had little information, the project raised awareness on the safer use, dangers and legal issues of the internet and technology.
